National Organization of Black County Officials Announces the Passing of Commissioner Dennis Deer

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the National Organization of Black County Officials (NOBCO) announces the passing of our esteemed Director at Large on the NOBCO Board of Directors, Commissioner Dennis Deer of Cook County, IL. Commissioner Deer passed away yesterday, leaving behind a legacy of tireless service and dedication to the community.

Commissioner Deer, representing Cook County's 2nd District, was a beacon of passion and commitment. His lifelong dedication to healthcare, education, economic development, employment and training, re-entry programs, and affordable housing has made a lasting impact on countless lives. His efforts have strengthened the fabric of our organization and provided hope and opportunities to many in his community.

Beyond his professional achievements, Commissioner Deer's greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband to his high school sweetheart, Barbara Deer, and a loving father to his twin sons, Kaleb and Kanaan, and his daughter, Trinity. His love for his family was evident in all aspects of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

We at NOBCO deeply mourn the loss of Commissioner Deer and extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. In respect of the family’s wishes, we kindly request their privacy at this time and ask for no calls, visits, or further inquiries. More details will be shared as they become available.
